Karuna Hydrating Treatment mask

This Karuna Sheet Mask was a sample from Birchbox. I was excited as this was the first one I tried. It was very moist and saturated. I liked giving it a try but won't repurchase due to the price and because it smelled like beans.

Here is an attractive photo of me wearing it.

Empties Part 2: Nail Care

Today I want to share the nail products I finished from January through September of this year.

1. RiteAid Renewal Maximum Strength Nail Polish Remover (100% acetone): I love this stuff! I am never going back to regular nail polish remover. I tried this on the recommendation of G at Nouveau Cheap who wrote about it here (I actually have 3 of the items she mentioned!) I was afraid to use pure acetone but I find that I use so little at a time it really is cost and time efficient. I already have two bottles I picked up during BOGOFREE.

2. RiteAid Nail Polish Remover (Regular): Now that I've professed my love for pure acetone, it should come at no surprise that this bottle of remover had been hanging out for a looooong time with a quarter left. I sucked it up and used it up but am not repurchasing.

3. Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening base and top coat: I love Sally Hansen nail products... but not this one. I started off trying to use it as a base and top coat as recommended  This thing would NOT dry! So I ended up using it as a base coat. It did a decent job but I'm not overly impressed. Not repurchasing this one.

4. Sally Hansen Advanced Hard as Nails Strengthening Top Coat: I loved using this top coat. It applied easily and dried quickly. I would repurchase this.

5. Deborah Lippman the Stripper to go: This was a mitt to remove your nail polish. I spend a couple of days at a friend's house and took it with me. I found it wasn't quite enough for 10 nails. The first five come off easily but I struggled to get off all the polish on my other hand. I received this as a sample in Birchbox and while I love the idea, it didn't quite wow me.

Empties Part 1: Makeup products

Despite my first few posts being nail polish-related, I do not intend this to be a nail blog.

I have been keeping track of which products I've used up this entire year.  Today I am showing you makeup products from January through September. These photos are not great quality because I was in a rush to throw them out and free up some space.

This is an overview. Total of 19 makeup products (in nine months). Not all of them are full-size. Keep reading for more details.

1. Jouer Lip Enhancer: This was a birchbox sample and lasted me quite longer than I initially thought it would. I did think it was moisturizing without feeling greasy but the overly sweet scent started to bother me halfway through. A t $14.00 for a full-size I will not be repurchasing this.

2. L'Oreal H.i.p. Jelly Balm in Succulent:  I hit pan on it long time ago and pulled it out to use to them end. I used it with an e.l.f. retaractable lip pencil.  The color was a sheer tint. It was not sticky, greasy or think. I enjoyed it alone or over lipstick. This product is unfortunately discontinued so I am unable to repurchase.

3. Kiehl's Lip Balm: This balm is overpriced for what it is. I loved the mint flavor but it felt just like Vaseline on my lips. I will not repurchase.

4. BareMinerals Lip gloss in Heartcake: This lip gloss came in a QVC set a couple years ago and I have to say I loved everything about it! The texture was perfect, stayed on my lips without being sticky, greasy or too thick. It smelled just like cake! I also love the applicator which is a firm brush instead of the usual boring doe-foots. I have purchased two other BareMinerals glosses more recently in a QVC set, but they are a different formula, and while I enjoy them it's not the samelvoe as I had for this original gloss. I would repurchase this.

5. Boxum Lip gloss in Sugar: I know I got this in some sort of set a long time ago but don't remember from where. This is a plumping lip gloss and while it's not something I look for, I didn't notice a difference on my lips. This does have a tingling feeling but it is not uncomfortable as other plumping glosses have been in my experience. I find the texture pleasant. It wears well and is not too sticky. I have repurchased a set of these glosses in other shades.

6. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara:  I have tried this multiple times over the years. I don't like this mascara, the brush does absolutely nothing for my lashes. I have used the clear one for a brow gel, which I enjoyed. I will not repurchase this.

7. Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara (washable): This is my second tube of this mascara. The first was waterproof and this one is the washable formula. I love this mascara. It does a great job of giving my lashes both volume and length. It's a great formula. I experience no clumping and it lasts a decent amount of time before changing consistency. I would definitely repurchase this product.

8. BareMinerals Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara: I wanted to love this mascara. I really did. I love that BareMinerals doesn't have all those bad ingredients in their products. I was thrilled when I received it in my Birchbox but when I went to use it I realized the wand is huge. I found myself almost poking my eye several times. I tried to like it but in the end I would not purchase this mascara.

9. Tarte Eyelash Primer: I'm afraid I didn't really get a good feel for this product from this sample.  I received this with a holiday kit on clearance from the Tarte website. From the reviews I've seen, I have concluded this was already dried out. I tried to use it a few times but it didn't work. I would like to try this product again as I have had good luck with drugstore 2-step mascaras and am curious to see how this would compare.

10. L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara: I love this mascara! It has a larger brush but I can definitely work with it. It gives me an amazing amount of volume without be clumpy. EVER. I will definitely repurchase.

11. Sephora Face Primer: This was a small sample but I got enough use out of it to realize I quite enjoy it. It has the silicone-y slip that I think works wonderfully for my drier skin. It gives me a nice even texture to apply my makeup onto.

12. BareEssentuals Prime Time eyelid primer: This is another sample product. Don't let the size of this thing fool you, I got tons of use out of this product! Works well to combat creasing and works well with many eye shadows. I would repurchase this again.

13. Urban Decay Primer Potion: This is a small size that I received in a "Best of Urban Decay" set. I think this is a great primer. A little goes a long way and I made sure to depot the remainder that was hiding in the weirdly shaped bottle. I do find that this primer has a thinner consistency than others I've enjoyed but don't think that affects it's performance. I have repurchased this primer.

14 and 15.  Stila Lip glaze:  These are two of a set of 5should have written down the shades but I didn't. I will say I like the sheer color these provide although I'm not a fan of this application method. I used them alone and over lipstick and found they stayed pretty well although they are a bit more sticky than I like. I will use the rest that I have but not repurchase.

16. Maybelline Shine Seduction lip gloss:  This is now discontinued but I found these glosses at a local close-out store that had double packs for $3. I love the texture of this gloss. Stick to your lips and wears well without being greasy. Sheer pigmentation works well alone or over lipsticks.

17. Victoria's Secret gloss in Grapefruit something: First off, let me say this was the gloss that would never end, and this is not even full-size! I loved the scent on this one but it's far more sticky than I enjoy. I did like these in the past and for this reason I have a few more to go but won't purchase anymore.

18. e.l.f. Liquid Lipstick: Again, I did a great move by throwing these out without names but I will say I did enjoy this product. I prefer this sponge applicator over the brushes on their glosses. I have several of these and for the price, I think they are well worth it. Color selection and pigmentation are pretty good. I would purchase a few more when I do my usual 50% off e.l.f. hauls.

19. Maybelline Moisture Whip Lipstick in unknown shade: This was hands-down my oldest makeup product. I've had it for more years than I care to admit. It was my mom's but she doesn't wear makeup. This was a bronze shade that was really build-able but more brown than what I like to wear. It seamed to have a bit of a mint scent which I like.

Have you tried any of these products? Do you agree or disagree with me?

If you have a blog post on your recent empties please share it with me in the comments. Thanks!

Glitter Overload

This is what happened to my manicure as I spent day after day cooped up at home due to the weather.

This were the polishes used:
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Gray by Gray
Essie Shine of the Times
Confetti Tazmanian Devil
Kleancolor (silver bar glitter)

I only put bar glitter on my ring finger. By that point I knew I o'd on the glitter and would have to take it off.

Hurracaine Sandy Manicure: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Gray by Gray

Sandy's headed this way, to New York, and I decided a good way to pass some of the time was doing a mani-pedi. (Check back for more photos of hurricane manis as I was stuck in the house and needed something to do!)
This is a color that is definitely wrongful named. It's called Gray by Gray but every time I look at I just see blue. In swatches, in the bottle and even on my own nails. I bought it recently at Walgreens for only $2.29. Here are some photos:

Sinful Colors: Winter Wonder

On Monday I realized I had $2.00 in Rite Aid +UP rewards that would expire if I didn't use them. So I walked to RA after work to browse.  I used my rewards to purchase two Sinful Colors polishes. One of them was Winter White.

I love this color so much I put it on right away!

Indoor lighting makes it look like an extremely sparkly blue toned gunmetal gray.

In this photo you can totally see how it shines!

In daylight, see the gorgeous purple, blue and gold shimmer? One word: WOW!

I don't have bottle shots  yet but will work on that when I have a chance to use sunlight. Indoor lighting make  the bottle shots look navy blue.

I only wore this manicure for one full day. The big bosses visited my workplace so I opted for a more office-appropriate shade but will definitely wear this one again very very soon.
